LIVE: Russia On Alert Amid Plague Fears | Hospital Under Quarantine After Lab Worker’s Death | N18G
Russia’s plague scare is raising fresh questions after a laboratory worker at an anti-plague research institute in Siberia died after falling ill with pneumonia of unknown origin. A hospital where she was treated has been placed under quarantine, while around 200 people were initially put under medical observation.
The incident has triggered fears of pneumonic plague, but Russian health authorities have not confirmed a plague outbreak. Rospotrebnadzor says no plague cases have been detected among the deceased woman’s contacts and no relevant pathogens linked to her work were found.
